The University of Texas is continuing to expand its campus facilities, undergoing construction and renovation projects across the Forty Acres. Among these projects is the construction of a new business building, Mulva Hall.

A 425 million dollar construction project, Mulva Hall is meant to be the latest addition to a regularly growing business program at the university. Breaking ground on the new building on April 10, 2024, Mulva Hall is expected to be completed by fall 2028.

“We need a new space or environment to support this larger aspirational mission of the school or unit,” said Carrie West, Assistant Vice President of Planning, Design and Construction at UT. “In the case of Mulva Hall, the idea started to form, so there was a lot of planning around what that could potentially look like.”

Mulva Hall is the latest addition to the university’s growing array of business buildings, becoming the seventh installment in the history of the campus. According to the University, the 17-story building will house 29 classrooms, as well as three specialty education labs and will be located across the street from one of the current McCombs business buildings, Rowling Hall.

Mulva Hall is one of the various projects being completed around the university’s campus, alongside other major renovations such as those being made to the Tower and the East Mall Fountain.

Some students have voiced frustration over the limited access construction and renovations create, particularly those planning to take graduation photos near the Tower.

Despite concerns, university officials say they do try to ensure that these construction projects properly plan for the impact they will have on the surrounding area and student body.

“When we start looking at projects, we begin very early with a programming phase where we determine what goes into the buildings,” Associate Director of Special Projects Mara Landi said. “But it also goes outside of the building, we’re also looking at how do people move around the building.”

The timeline for these projects varies, with Mulva Hall’s construction expected to be completed in time for the 2028 fall semester. The Tower’s renovations are expected to have scaffolding removed from the front of the main building by January 2027, according to the university.
