The obituaries and tributes continued for iconic football coach Darrell K Royal, who died on Wednesday:

Sports Illustrated’s tribute to Royal includes Dan Jenkins’ 2007 comments about the legndary coach’s relationship with Texas football fans, calling it “more intimate [than other coaches].”

Texas Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds tells CNN that Royal’s fingerprints can be seen throughout the University of Texas at Austin’s campus, including the football stadium that bears his name. “No words are adequate to describe the impact Darrell Royal had on this state, the university, UT athletics and Texas football,” Dodds said Wednesday. “He was simply the foundation, the beginning.”

In addition to the obituary it posted Wednesday, The Austin American-Statesman published an extensive package of Royal articles and photographs.

USA Today not only posted an appreciation but also revisited Royal’s 2007 “Spygate” controversy involving Oklahoma booster Lonnie Williams.

The International Business Times’ online coverage compiled fans’ condolences via Twitter.
